Wood boring beetles are little insects which can cause a whole lot of damage to the wood structure of your roof and your home.  They can live in both living and dead wood and are usually attracted to shady areas with lots of wood and moisture – both of which we have a lot of here in Portland.

However, there are some really easy prevention actions you can do to help keep your home boring beetle free.  The basic idea is, don’t let debris pile up either on your roof or at the sides of your home.

As anyone who has a roof can attest, this can be a daunting task.  You aren’t always staring at that structure covering your head, sweeping off each leaf as it falls.  Nor are most people able to keep the areas around their homes constantly free of debris.

The main idea is to keep anything that could become a habitat from forming – so don’t allow dead branches to remain on your roof or piled up against your home siding.
