Being a roofing company, we get asked roofing questions all the time and we’re always happy to answer them. Here are some of the most common questions and concerns people have when they contact us:
Is it possible to do roofing work in the rain?
Being in Portland, we get our fair share of rain. Fortunately, we can repair or replace a roof in the rain. Not only are our crews used to working in these conditions, we know how to protect your home from the rain while we work on the roof.
Can you put a new roof on top of my old roof?
This actually depends on the condition of the existing roof. Once the estimator has examined the existing roof, he or she can determine whether or not they need to start from scratch.
Should my roofer clean up the job site afterwards?
The short answer is YES. The long answer is that the roofer or roofing company should take care of the set up, maintenance, and clean up of their tools and their set-up. No roofer should leave a mess.
There are many types of roofing materials, which can leave some homeowners wondering what type would be best to use when they need a re-roof. This can be even more tough when you are trying to change the overall look of your home. In this case, it’s best to look at what you are trying to accomplish with the re-roof. Are you attempting to go green? Do you want to up the curb appeal factor? Are you trying to sell the house? We can only make recommendations based you giving us all the information you’ll be using to inform your decision.
What kind of maintenance does my roof need?
Just like any other part of your home, your roof needs to be cleaned on a regular basis. This may require a simple sweep in the summer time or an emergency removal of debris from surrounding trees in the fall. Either way, keeping your roof free of debris and moss will help it last longer.
My porch roof leaks. Do I need to worry about this?
It’s a good idea to get any damage to eaves and porch roofs repaired as soon as possible to prevent any major water damage or the development of dry rot.
Do you have a license?
We are licensed and insured. You should always work with construction companies that maintain their contractor’s license and keep up on their insurance.
These are just a few of the most common questions we are asked here at Tom Leach Roofing. You may have your own questions, which you can absolutely ask us.
No matter what type of construction you are doing, your contractor or the company you have hired should be ready and willing to answer every one of your questions – no matter how “silly” or “unimportant” you feel they might be. Increased knowledge can give you peace of mind and a greater understanding of what is happening to your home. So, when in doubt, ask!
