When a leaky roof strikes, the roofer may not exactly be “on call”.  It could be during a storm or on a holiday.  So, what option do you have besides buckets and cooking pots?  Here is a temporary fix.  This is by no means a permanent fix – and you will need to get a roofer out to do a proper job as soon as possible:

You will need:Damaged Roof Shingles Repair

Roofing Cement

Trowel, Stirrer or Spatula

Bucket

A Sheet of Galvanized Metal

A Ladder

Rubber-soled Shoes

1. With the trowel, spread roofing cement into the hole from the inside of your attic or crawlspace.  Apply a good amount directly to the decking and work the cement so that it sticks.

2. Wait for your roof to dry out.  Then, wearing your rubber-soled shoes, set your ladder up on dry, even ground.  If you can get on your roof safely, do so.  Bring your sheet of metal and cover the spot by inserting the sheet of metal between the good shingles.  Make sure the metal covers the damaged area.

3. Call your roofer and schedule a time for them to come out and fix your roof properly.
